We are into Asafoetida (Hing) Business since last 6 decades when grandfather of Shri Harish Gambhir Hingwala, Late Shri Daulatram Gambhir along with his son L/Shri Basantlal Gambhir, used to supply Hing to Indian markets which was carried over by Shri Basantlal ji at their small shop in Delhi at Pachkuia Road. This was further extended to Mumbai in late 50s by his sons. Since then Shri Harish Gambhir has taken care of this business who themselves go to the place of origin in Afghanistan, Kabul to purchase Hing and check its quality so that only quality produce can be supplied to their customers.
Thus, with the dawn of the new millennium in the year 2000, Gaurav H Gambhir started a manufacturing unit named as, "Shubh Food Products".He started his business operation with an aim to provide impeccable quality Hing to worldwide customers. Within few years of our inception, we have carved a valuable niche in the national and international market.
We have become one of the most preferred manufacturers, exporters, importers and traders of more than 100 varieties of Hing and Khada with brand names Naya Khazana (Gold)-Yellow Hing Powder, Naya Khazana (Sona Chandi)-Sp. About Asafoetida (Hing)
Ferula assafoetida, which some people spell it as asafetida, is the resinous gum of a plant which grows in Afghanistan and Iran. The smell is unpleasant (one of its common names is "devil's dung") but once incorporated in a dish it gives no hint of its malodorous beginnings. It used to be popular as a condiment in Roman times, and a favorite with Apicius, a Roman gourmet of the first century.
It is used as a seasoning, but its real importance is that it acts as an anti-flatulent and is therefore especially important in Indian lentil dishes. Pure asafoetida resin is sold in small lumps in a tin or box. Sometimes each lump is wrapped tightly in paper. Unwrap, pound using a mortar and pestle and use a piece no larger than a peppercorn. Nowadays, asafoetida is usually sold powdered and mixed with rice flour to keep it free running and to diffuse the strong aroma. Because of this, the flavor is milder and in this form asafoetida may be measured and used in quantities from a pinch to a half-teaspoon, depending on how pure and strong it is. Don't over-do it.
Asafoetida comes into its own in Brahman cooking where it is used as a flavor substitute for garlic and onions. The latter are ruled out because they are believed to inflame the baser passions.
